Imogene Ernst

Imogene Ernst, nee Clayton, 103, of Swansea, IL, born August 30, 1921, in Elsberry, MO, died Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Mercy Rehab, Swansea, IL.

Imogene loved to travel, New York City being one of her favorite destinations. When she wasn’t travelling to a new city she would take to new destinations by foot, running in marathons and even competing in the Senior Olympics. Cats always had a special place in Imogene’s heart, but no love could compare to her love for her family. She worked as a homemaker, dedicating time to her children and providing them with a loving home.

Imogene was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold E. Ernst who passed September 10, 2012; her parents, William and Ethel, nee Cannon, Clayton; a son, Michael Ernst; and her grandson, Dustin Ernst.

Surviving are her three daughters, Linda (Jim) Guenther, Karen (David Dicks) Ernst, and Mary Beth Ernst; two grandchildren, Julie Guenther and Dillan Ernst; and a great-grandson Damion Ernst.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri, St. Louis, MO or to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at The Cathedral of Saint Peter, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A memorial mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at The Cathedral of Saint Peter, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Godfrey Mullen, OSB officiating.

Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
