Dennis Hunnicutt

Dennis R. Hunnicutt, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas and a longtime resident of Granite City, Illinois passed away at the Park Meadow Senior Living facility in Overland Park, Kansas at 3:34 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025. 

Dennis was born May 15, 1935, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late Ruby Ray and Elsie Mae (Gaines) Hunnicutt.

He married Lucille Mae (Hering) on October 25, 1958, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, Illinois. Lucy passed away on December 7, 2007.

Dennis worked as an electrical engineer, spending 25 years at Emerson Electric in St. Louis, Missouri, and he retired in 2002 from Franklin Electric in Bluffton, Indiana, after over 20 years of service. He proudly served his country with the National Guard and was a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Granite City. Dennis was a 1958 graduate of the University of Missouri, School of Mines and Metallurgy, where he was an active member of the Triangle Fraternity. He enjoyed his years of playing college basketball, bowling, golfing, and fishing. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by two sons, Daniel Hunnicutt and wife, Elaine Haverty of Lenexa, Kansas and David Hunnicutt, PhD and wife, Amy Lewis, PhD of De Pere, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Shannon (Hunnicutt) and husband, Jonathon Crockett of Atlanta, Georgia, Jackson Hunnicutt of Lenexa, Kansas, Jeremy Hunnicutt and fiancé, Sarah Beth Fullington of Lenexa, Kansas, Oskar Hunnicutt of De Pere, Wisconsin, Grace Haverty of Lenexa, Kansas and Jay Haverty of Lenexa, Kansas; a great grandson, Austin Crockett of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 49 years and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Hunnicutt.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, February 17, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 12:00 noon with Reverend Michael Walther officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
