Marquita Marie Buss, nee Rast, 89, of Belleville, IL, born October 25, 1935, in East St. Louis, died Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Freeburg, IL.
Marquita graduated from St. Thersea Academy. She worked as an administrative assistant for Teamsters Local 50 before her retirement. Marquita was a volunteer at St. Vincent De Paul, Meals on Wheels, and the PSOP. She was also a member of St. Mary Sodality. She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events and musical performances. When her camping and volleyball days were over, she could be found playing cards or at a slot machine.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, William F. Buss, whom she married on July 4, 1957, and who died on September 15, 2021; her parents, William and Mathilda, nee Schmitz, Rast; her sister, Carol (Gene) Madura; a son-in-law, Eric Grimmer; three brothers-in-law, Charles (Sally) Buss, Jack Buss, and Jim (Helen Fowler) Buss.
Surviving are her five children, Cheryl (Jay) Vogt,
Denise (Jon) Calabra,
Robert Buss,
Julie (Jeff) Hodde,
and Susan Grimmer;
10 grandchildren, David, Nicole, Tony, and Ryan Calabra,
Josh and Justin Hodde,
Kellie (Jordan) Lester, Katie Vogt,
Madison and Dylan Grimmer;
four great-grandchildren, Logan Monroe,
Kenzie and Jace Greenfield and
Kylan Lester;
her brother, William (Bonnie) Rast;
two sisters-in-law, Betty (Norman) Meder and Mary Lou Buss;
and many nieces, nephews, special cousins, and great friends.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2025, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 20, 2025, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.
Burial will be at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
