Ruby “Louise” Townzen, age 99, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL. Ruby was born on October 18, 1925, in Camden, TN., a daughter of the late Robert Randolph Corbett and Ruby Alice (Whelling) Corbett.
Ruby will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt, and friend. In her younger years, Ruby worked in the cafeteria at Granite City Steel and later as a waitress at Charlie’s Restaurant in Granite City, IL. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husbands, Loyd Brown and Chester Townzen, daughters, Sondra Alice Brown and Gayloid Ledbetter, and by her siblings, Robert “Bob” Corbett, Jack Corbett and James “Jim” Corbett.
She is survived by her loving son, Sam (Linda) Brown of Granite City, IL, dear brother, Steve (Pat) Corbett, proud grandmother to Richard (Hope), and Sondra (Beth), proud great grandmother to Ryan (Paige) Brown, Kyle (Jordan) Brown, Luke Brown, Mike Brown, and Katie Brown, proud great great-grandmother to Scarlett Brown, Emma Brown and Mia Brown, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, the visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Sharon Autenrieth officiating. Private interment will be held at Robinson Cemetery in Pocahontas, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Alzheimer’s Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
