Betty Lou Schmidt, 94, of O’Fallon, IL, born on May 23, 1930, in Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at home with her family by her side.
Betty lived a life filled with kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to her community. Betty was an avid volunteer and an accomplished seamstress, always willing to lend a helping hand. She was a devoted room mother at St. Clair Catholic School, where she nurtured and supported students and teachers alike.
Betty was a lifetime member of the O’Fallon Woman’s Club, where she forged many lasting friendships. She was also proud to serve as Co-Chair of the O’Fallon Township Rummage Sale, dedicating all proceeds to the O’Fallon Food Pantry to help those in need.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Marcella Corbier (nee Harmening); her beloved husband, Walter Schmidt, brother; Clifford Corbier, 5 Sisters; Dianna Hamand, Edna Mackey, Mary Grotsky, Joann Stidham, Ruth Walker and Sister-in-law Marie Truttmann
Surviving Betty is her daughter; Shirley Karvelat of O’Fallon, IL, brother; Tom Hottenrott (Paula) of Freeburg IL, grandson; Jason Karvelat, granddaughter Sara Jones, great grandson Brendan Karvelat (Edwin Hyatt).
