Glennis Nelson

Glennis “Glenn” Nelson, 81, of Bradford Place, in Swansea, Ill., born May 24, 1943 in Balkan, Kentucky, to the late Arnold and Hazel, nee Wilder, Nelson, passed away Friday, February 21, 2025. Glenn was blessed to be married to the love of his life June Hunley for over 50 years; she preceded him in death in 2019. 

Glenn served in the Army from 1963-66. He was a good Christian husband, father, and papaw; he taught Sunday School for over 30 years in various Baptist churches in Michigan and Kentucky. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee, restoring old cars, telling jokes, and going to car shows. Glenn and his late wife June relocated to the metro-east in 2016 to be closer their daughter. 

He is survived by his daughter Sherri (Edwin) Smith of Belleville, Ill., grandchildren E. J. Smith,  Isaiah Parmer Smith, Beyla Smith, and Nate Smith; siblings Annette (the late L.B.) Hensley, Bonita (H.D.) Hunley, and Jimmy (Deena) Nelson, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Vickie Nelson, granddaughter Kiara Smith, brothers Orville Nelson, Freeman Nelson, and sisters Helen Lawson and Elizabeth Collins. 

Memorial donations are suggested to either Alzheimer’s Association or Siteman Cancer Center. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.wfh-ofallon.com.  

The family will receive friends from 10 am – Noon, Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Wolfersberger Funeral Home, 102 W. Washington St., O’Fallon. A funeral service will begin at Noon, with Pastor Doug Munton officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
