Elwyn Pare

Elwyn Gerald Pare, 94, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

He was born November 1, 1930, in Romance, Missouri, a son of the late Roy and Reta (Davis) Pare.

He married Lorene Emaline (Casey) Davis on September 16, 1953, in Springfield, Missouri and she passed away on January 4, 2023.

Elwyn retired from Granite City Steel after 35 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Granite City where he served as the treasurer for many years. He enjoyed his days of fishing, camping and bowling with the church league. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Mary Kay Pare of Canton, Mississippi and Darrell and Stephanie Pare of Trent Woods, North Carolina; seven grandchildren, Philip (Crystal) Pare, Tyler Pare, Courtney (Jon) Ward, Patrick Pare, Elizabeth (Dustan) Brown, Harrison (Amanda) Holt and John Owen (Alyssa Ammons) Holt; seven great grandchildren, Logan Pare, Abigail Ward, Holly Brown, Reagan Holt, Owen Holt, Kendal Holt and Adeline Holt; a sister, Eleanor Lewis; nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife of 69 years, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Julia Pare; a granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Pare and two sisters, Beatrice Jackson and Virginia Lenz.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Visitation will continue at Grace Baptist Church, 2600 Edwards Street in Granite City on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Daniel Wilson officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
