Marvin Holzhauer

Marvin Dale Holzhauer, age 87 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJC) in Saint Louis, MO.

He was born on Sunday, September 5, 1937, in Breese, IL, the son of Martin and Olinda (nee Kramer) Holzhauer.

On Saturday, February 1, 1958, he married Janet Mae Holzhauer (nee Smith) at Mount Vernon, IL, who passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012.

He was a Council Member & on the Pulpit Committee at United Church of Christ, Marine, IL; Council Member, Former Treasurer and on the Cemetery Board at St. John United Church of Christ, Breese, IL; and on the Citizens Advisory Council for Central Community High School, Breese, IL.

Born in Breese, IL, Marvin graduated from Breese Community High School in 1955. He attended McKendree College for 2 years. He moved to Highland, IL, and married Janet Smith on February 1, 1958 in Mount Vernon, IL. He worked at McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft for 35 years and then Boeing for 5 years. Marvin was a 30+ gallon blood donor; Charter Member of National WWII museum in New Orleans, and a sponsor of the National Army Museum. He had been the Projectionist at the Avon Theater in Breese for many years. A sports enthusiast, he had played basketball with the New Baden League, and Baseball with the Clinton County League. Marvin enjoyed collecting marbles, cookie jars and sports memorabilia. He most loved his children, grandchildren and their families. “Never knew a stranger, always left them with a smile… and a bad joke”!

  • Sister – Genevieve “Dolly” Schmidt (Died: 4/4/2020)
  • Sister – Marie S. Gehrs (Died: 12/03/1996)
  • Brother – Leonard Holzhauer (Died age 2)
  • Brother – Stanley Holzhauer (Died 10/16/2019)

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Philip H. Kershner, Pastor, United Church of Christ of Marine, officiating.

Private Interment will be at St. John UCC Cemetery in Breese, IL, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cailey A. Karbach Special Needs Trust Fund.
