Margaret Ann “Margie” Amann, nee Sarkesian, 78, of Belleville, IL, passed away peacefully at her residence on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 29, 1946, in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret, nee Mueller, Sarkesian.
Margie graduated from Notre Dame Academy High School and married her beloved husband, John “Jack” Amann, Sr., on August 23, 1965. They shared 59 wonderful years together.
Margie retired from The City of Belleville after many years of dedicated service, working as a Meter Maid and later as a 911 Police, Fire Telecommunicator Dispatcher. She was a devoted member of the Cathedral of St. Peter Catholic Church and volunteered at Cathedral Grade School and The St. Vincent De Paul Breakfast.
An avid sports fan, Margie was especially passionate about her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, attending countless games and events. She spent years toting her kids around to sports camps, going to their ball games, playing catch, rebounding basketballs, you name it! She spent time going to her grandchildren’s baseball, basketball, softball, volleyball games, and gymnastics meets. She enjoyed traveling with her family to Hawaii, California, New York, Seattle, Florida, and South Carolina to name a few. She enjoyed shopping trips with her daughters and granddaughters. She loved spending mornings on the back deck with her husband, savoring a good cup of coffee.
Margie has been a proud mama from the day her first grandchild was born. She would play games, push them on swings, and was always a fan of anything outdoors. When Margie decided to retire, she thought she would be done with the 12-hour shifts, but quickly realized she was going to be a part-time (in some cases full-time) babysitter for her grandchildren who loved her dearly. In addition to babysitting, she was also a chauffeur, taking and picking up her grandkids to and from school.
Margie’s family was the light of her life. She was a loving mother, mama, and wife, always ready for any adventure with her family. Her legacy of love and dedication will be cherished by all who knew her.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, Melvin, Billy, and Blaise Sarkesian; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Gertrude Amann; and a brother-in-law, Paul Jr. (Debbie) Amann.
She is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Amann, Sr.; five children, Margaret (Glenn) Wiegmann, Angel (Tom) Ackerman, Maria (Greg) Jaster, John (Amy) Amann, and Brian (Trish) Amann; proud grandmother to ten grandchildren, Luke and Claire (Kyle Bammer) Ackerman, Kate and Ava Jaster, Josh and Emma Amann, and Jack, Drew, Nick, and Grace Amann; her sister-in-law, Pat Sarkesian; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
