Charles Shearer

Charles “Chuck” E. Shearer, 80, of O’Fallon, IL, born February 2, 1945, in Princeton, IN, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 6, 2025, with his family by his side.

Chuck was an Air Force Veteran of 20 years in which he served a tour in Vietnam. Retiring from the military, Chuck worked as civil service on Scott Air Force Base in logistics. Chuck had a love for technology that extended from tablets to laptops to computer games. He was also a fan of America’s Got Talent and enjoyed delivery services such as DoorDash and Amazon. Chuck had a love for animals, and he leaves behind his two fat cats, Tobey and Zoey. He was always there for his children, offering guidance and encouragement throughout their lives.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Alice Shearer (nee Alka); and his beloved wife, Lora Shearer (nee Mergner). Left to cherish Chuck’s memory are his five children, Sonja (Ken) Sliwa of Georgetown, TX, Evi (Arthur) Connors of Saugus, MA, Jenny (Stan) Rathjen of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Daniel (Jamie) Shearer of Clarksville, TN, Jessica (Valdis) Largent of Belleville, IL; nine grandchildren, Keith (Aing) Sliwa of Arlington,VA, Stephanie (Joe) Freiwald of Georgetown, TX, Erin (Michael) Sitkowski of Berwick, ME, Jamie Connors of Saugus, MA, Chris (Elizabeth) Rathjen of University City, MO, Katherine (Scott) Allen of Huntsville, AL, Faith Shearer of Knoxville, TN, Presley Shearer of Clarksville, TN, Stalla Largent of Maryville, IL; five great-grandchildren, Evelyn Freiwald of Georgetown, TX, Grace Lester of Saugus, MA, Christopher Lester of Saugus, MA, Emily Sitkowski of Berwick, ME, Margo Rathjen of University City, MO; two brothers, David Shearer of Mount Carmel, IL, Mark D. Shearer of New Salisbury, IN; two nieces, Jennifer Shearer of Evansville, IN, Kellie (Chris) Mallory of Evansville, IN; and one great-nephew, Bryce Elliott of Evansville IN.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., at Schildknecht Funeral Home; 301 S. Lincoln Ave., O’Fallon, IL 62269, with a funeral service to follow at 7:00 p.m.

Burial with full military honors will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery; 2900 Sheridan Rd., St. Louis, MO 63125.
