Elizabeth Jane “Liz” Vogt, age 86, of Belleville, IL, born on July 24, 1938, in E. St. Louis, IL, died on Friday, March 14, 2025, at her residence.
Elizabeth received her elementary education from St. Elizabeth School (1-6) and St. Clare School (7-8). Then, St. Teresa Academy (9-10) and Precious Blood Institute (11-12). She attended St. Louis University for her B.S. degree and M.S. degree in Library Science; Rosary College; Certificate in Administration & Supervision at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the former St. Albert the Great Church.
She was a professed member of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ from 1957-1973 – Religious Name – Sister John Joseph, then Sister Elizabeth. As a religious she taught at St. Joseph in Olney, IL, St. Jerome in St. Louis, MO, Ss. Peter and Paul High School, Gibault High School, Mater Dei High School and St. Teresa Academy, E. St. Louis, IL. As a dedicated lay person: she taught at St. Albert the Great School, librarian and administrator at Assumption High School, and Public Service Librarian at McKendree College, Lebanon, IL. Liz earned the rank of Assistant Professor at McKendree College, member of Beta Phi Mu International Library Science Society, and Phi Kapp Phi-Academic Honor Society.
Areas of service included being the President of the Catholic Library Association, Springfield-Belleville Unit, member and officer of St. Ann’s Sodality, and volunteer and buyer for the Fairview Heights Food Pantry. Elizabeth enjoyed volunteering, watching television, and spending time with her sister Carolyn at the Casino Queen (their home away from home).
She was a breast cancer survivor since 2007.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents; John and Blanche (nee Thompson) Vogt; sister and brother-in-law, Edgar and Margie (Vogt) Morris; her sister, Eileen (Vogt) Lohmann; brother, Rev John Joseph Vogt, brother and sister-in-law, James Thomas and (Carolyn K.) Vogt; nephews, John “Tony” Morris and James Michael Vogt; all of her aunts and uncles, several cousins; and her beloved dogs, Ebony, Sugar, and Spice.
She is survived by her sister, Carolyn A. Vogt (with whom she shared a home for many years); her brother-in-law, Leland Lohmann; nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephew, great great nephews, great great niece; many cousins; and many friends.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.
Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL., with Fr. James Buerster officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
