Gus Palmisano

Gus Christ Palmisano, 80, of Granite City, IL, died at 11:24 a.m. Mon. Mar. 17, 2025 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.

He was born Apr. 7, 1944 in St. Louis, MO to the late Lena Mary (Tormino) Woods. He was lovingly raised by late Rose and Croce Tormino.

Gus was a U.S. Navy Vietnam veteran and had received the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He worked for Press Sign Company for many years until his retirement. Gus was a proud Italian American and had been a long time member of the Italian American Club. He was also an avid bingo player. His greatest love was his family, especially his beloved dog, Bentley. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing.

On Dec. 23, 1966, he and Gloria Dean Lawson were married in Ferguson, MO.  She survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Tina Marie (Terry) Loyd of Granite City; 2 sons: Christopher (Dawn) Palmisano of Lebanon, IL and Brian (Cari) Palmisano of Granite City; 9 grandchildren; Carissa (Matt) Warfield, Kaylin Palmisano, Kelsey Palmisano, Madisen (Nathan) Clark, Austin (Emma) Loyd, Bailee Palmisano, Kinsey (Joel) Yates, Alex (Elli) Loyd and Caleb Palmisano; 7 great-grandchildren: 6 siblings: Rosalie (Bill) Sullivan of Rogersville, MO, Mary Krikstolitis of Troy, MO, Tom Woods of Las Vegas, NV, Pearl (Steve) McElroy of Granite City, Nancy (Mike) Turner of Granite City and Carl (Nancy) Woods of Marble Hill, MO; and a sister-in-law: Gail Woods of Granite City.

In addition to his loving parents, he was preceded in death by 2 uncles: Charles Ryan and Joseph Tormino; a brother: Joseph Woods; and a brother-in-law: Al Krikstolitis.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. Mon. Mar. 24, 2025 at Calvary Life Church with Rev. Mark Maynard officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of Mrs. Gloria Palmisano.
