Troy Edward Powell, age 87, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Troy was born on December 20, 1937, in Mammoth Spring, AR, son of the late Otho and Freddie (Michaels) Powell.
Troy was a United States Army veteran who proudly served his country with honor. On September 3, 1960, Troy married Helen Riskovsky, the love of his life in Granite City, IL.
Troy retired from Granite City Steel as a hot metal weighman after forty-three years of dedicated service. Troy was a hard worker and even after retiring he decided to go back to work. He loved driving so he started working for Hertz transporting cars and then worked as a security guard for Securitas in St. Louis, MO. Troy also had a lawnmowing business in Madison, IL, called American Lawn and he loved cutting grass on his John Deere lawn tractor.
In his spare time, Troy enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels every day, rain or shine. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. Troy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Troy is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-four years, Helen Powell of Granite City, IL, loving children, Karlene (Alan) Whitt of Granite City, IL and Craig (Amy) Powell of Highland, IL, dear sister, Emily Taylor of Rosedale, CA, proud grandfather to Nathan Whitt, Ethan (Mariah) Whitt, Brendan (Theresa) Whitt, Allisan Whitt, Talen Powell, Carter Powell and Tinsley Powell, proud great-grandfather to Henry Whitt and one great-grandson on the way, grand dogs, Layla, Shanney, Daisey, Linda, Deuce, Charlotte and Toby, several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, and 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, the funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral chapel with Pastor Jarad Corzine officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
Memorial donations may be given to Granite City A.P.A. or American Heart Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
