Paul A. Kahrhoff, age 90, of Highland, peacefully passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Carlyle Healthcare & Senior Living, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 24, 1934, in Albers, the son of August and Alma (Broeckling) Kahrhoff. Paul married Catherine (Santel) Kahrhoff on October 19, 1954, in Damiansville, and she preceded him in death on November 1, 2011. Paul married Judy (Wall) Frey on September 1, 2013, and she survives him.
Paul is survived by his children: Nancy (Joe) Heimann, Deb (John) Koerkenmeier, Terry (Marvin) Linton, Mary Kay (Curt) Piper and Jim Kahrhoff; a son-in-law Bill Bishop; his stepchildren SuAnn Fields, Nancy (Toni Corona) Frey, and Rick (Lucy) Frey. Paul was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren and 8 step-great-grandchildren. Paul is also survived by a sister, Rose Swinford, a brother Bob Kahrhoff, sisters-in-law, Betty Santel and Irene Kahrhoff, and brother-in-law, Jim Smith.
In addition to his first wife, Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his daughters, Mary Kahrhoff in infancy and Suzanne Bishop; son-in-law, Randy Toennies; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Helena Santel; his brothers, Dan Kahrhoff, Bill Kahrhoff, August “Butch” Kahrhoff; a sister, Marilyn Smith; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Doris “Dolly” Kahrhoff, Mary Kahrhoff, Aaron Swinford, Sr. Flora Santel, Vince (Sophie) Santel, Olivia (Don) Meyer, Mary (John) Friess, Frank Santel and John Santel. He was also preceded in death by a step son-in-law, Terry Fields and a stepdaughter, Terri Larry.
Paul was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL.
Paul was born and raised in Albers, IL, and graduated from Aviston High School. He lived in Damiansville and New Baden and lived the majority of his life in Okawville. He worked for Monsanto Chemical Co. and later was a barber at Scott Air Force Base. He enjoyed woodworking, reading and gardening. He moved to Highland after his second marriage.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL, with Fr. Pat G. Jakel, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will be at Saint Barbara Catholic Cemetery in Okawville, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association; American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association or St. Paul Catholic Church and will be received at the visitation or by mail, Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home, 1501 Ninth St., PO Box 187, Highland, IL 62249, who is serving the family.
