Stephen Mormino

Stephen Gerard “Steve” Mormino, 68, of Pontoon Beach, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.  Born on January 14, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri, he was the beloved son of the late Frank A. and Virginia (Wall) Mormino.

On October 8, 1982, in St. Louis, Missouri, Steve married the love of his life, Rosemary J. Lloyd. Their 42 years of marriage are a testament to their unwavering love and devotion.

Steve proudly served his country in the United States Navy. In his youth, he excelled in baseball and was offered a scholarship to play in college. However, he soon discovered his true passion in boxing, where he thrived, enjoying the training, sparring, and preparation for each match.

Steve lived life with a childlike enthusiasm, always marching to his own beat. He loved spending time at the beach and taking family vacations. His affection for animals was boundless, and he literally wouldn’t hurt a fly. Above all, Steve was a father who fought valiantly to provide a life of abundance and joy for his family.

His life was a testament to the power of resilience and the beauty of a generous spirit. Though his presence could command any room, it was his heart of gold that truly defined him. He taught us that true wealth lies not in material possessions, but in the time and effort we give to others.

A gentle giant, he was a teddy bear to those who knew him best, offering warmth and comfort in times of need. Steve’s legacy of generosity and selflessness will forever be etched in our hearts, guiding us as we strive to live by his example.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Rosemary J. (Lloyd) Mormino, of Pontoon Beach, Illinois; his sons, Anthony F. Mormino, of Alton, Illinois and Nicholas S. “Nick” (Leah Kostencki) Mormino, of Granite City, Illinois; his grandchildren, Kiersten, Stephen, and Christina; his sisters, Diana DeGraff and Linda Sutton; his brother-in-law, Gordon “Skip” (Phyllis) Lloyd; his grand-pups, Ballo and Gibbs; and his grand-cat, Felix; and many other relatives and friends.
