John Howard Schuessler, 86, formerly of Granite City, IL, died at 2:25 a.m. Sat. June 7, 2025 at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield, MO.
He was born Aug. 19, 1938 in Jacksonville, IL to the late John Schuessler and Helen (Bauser) Schuessler.
He and Wanda Mason (Cave) Schuessler were married in 2004. She preceded him in death June 25, 2013.
John was a U.S. Navy veteran and loved to tell stories about his time in the service while stationed in Australia. He worked various jobs throughout his life including for the carnival, Boeing and later retired from a cleaning company. He loved being outdoors, gardening and tending to his flowers and chickens. He also enjoyed traveling, listening to the radio and watching classic movies and westerns. He could always be found with his sidekick pup, Titan.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Halbert, two sons, Scott Willman, and, Ronnie Schuessler, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, brother, Larry Schuessler, and, sister, Patricia Farley.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbra Schuessler, and two brothers, Paul Schuessler, and, Robert Schuessler, and a sister, Janice Christensen.
John made a gift of his body to Washington University School of Medicine. The family will gather for a memorial cemetery service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date.
