Charles Palus

Charles Daniel “Charlie” Palus, 69, of Caseyville and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 8:28 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Keystone at Magnolia Commons in Glen Carbon. He was born June 28, 1955, in Granite City, a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Sertich) Palus.

He married Cheryl Callis on June 27, 1998, in Kirkwood, Missouri. In addition to his beloved wife he is survived by a son, Robbie Palus of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; a daughter, Jessie Palus of Fairview Heights, Illinois; a brother, Bob Palus(Pam Shadwick) of Glen Carbon, Illinois; mother-in-law, Nancy Callis of O’Fallon, Illinois; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Callis of Bloomington, Illinois and Bob and Kim Ready of Hayworth, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; special cousin Dot Pawlak and many other cousins, family and friends. The family has included many dogs over the years with Zoe, Priscilla and Lexie keeping the house safe currently.

Charlie proudly served the community as a realtor with over 40 years of dedicated service. He retired in February 2020 from RE/MAX after 22 years of service. Throughout his career he was the recipient of many awards and achievements including an award as a member of the RE/Max 100% Club for top sales. His favorite award was the one he received one year for having the lowest dollar sale of the year!

Charlie was a faithful member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in O’Fallon, Illinois and a member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-Cities Council #1019 in Granite City. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoyed attending many games with games 6 and 7 of the 2011 World Series being his favorite. He also enjoyed a good game of poker, even winning on cruises with the family. Charlie had fun coaching his kids basketball teams and was proud to have once made 49 free throws in a row. He was famous for his skill as a wiffle ball pitcher.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on June 14, from 9:00 a.m. until time of a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson officiating and Mat Conway from First United Presbyterian providing special music. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be made to the Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis and may be accepted at the funeral chapel. www.irwinchapel.com
