Florence Bohnenstiehl

Florence R. “Flossie” Bohnenstiehl, age 92 of Highland, IL, died Friday, June 13, 2025, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland, IL.

She was born on Thursday, April 27, 1933, in Highland, IL, the son/daughter of Frank and Rose (nee Essenpries) Weis.

On Saturday, September 15, 1951, she married LaVerne A. Bohnenstiehl at Marine, IL, who passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth Altar Society; Wood Life, Highland, IL; Highland Senior Citizens and Letter Carriers Union.

Florence was born west of Highland, IL and attended Steinkoenig County School. She helped on the family farm and worked for two years at Highland Box Company. She got married, raised her family, and drove a school bus for the Triad School District for eight years. She started with the U.S. Postal Service in 1978 and retired in 1996, as a Rural Mail Carrier. She also helped with the family farm which consisted of dairy cows, other livestock and planting and harvesting grain. LaVerne and her loved spending the winters in Florida. She enjoyed quilting, competing at shuffleboard, playing Euchre and other card games, and was very active in her church. She moved to Highland in 2011 and the last time she went to Florida was in 2017.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Marine, IL, with Fr. John Beveridge, officiating.

Interment will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Cemetery in Marine, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to In Lieu of flowers, plants, stones and other gifts, memorial are suggested for Masses, St. Elizabeth Cemetery, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
