George F. Combs, 87, of Swansea, IL, born September 9, 1937, in East Saint Louis, IL, died Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.
George was a United States Air Force veteran. He served his country honorably for eight years. He retired from Terminal Railroad after 42 years of service as a switchman. George was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucille, nee McElligott, Combs; four brothers, James Combs, Harold (Helen) Combs, Donald (Chika) Combs, and Kenneth (Dee) Combs; and a sister-in-law, Pat Combs.
Surviving are his loving wife, Janet Combs, nee Lopinot; his son, Rick (Cathy) Combs; two daughters, Nancy (David) Thomas and Laura (Mike) Strebel; seven grandchildren, Caitlin (Luke) Hasse, Kyle Combs, Callie (Zak) Phillips, Lauren Caudle, Drew Thomas, and Brett and Brandon Strebel; three great-grandchildren, Everett and Parker Hasse and Elliott Phillips; a brother, Norman Combs; three brothers-in-law, Jack (Evelyn) Lopinot, Jerry (Lori) Lopinot, and Bob (Tanya) Lopinot; one sister -in-law, Connie (Sam) DeCourcey; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.
Burial with honors will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.
