Michelle McIlvoy

Michelle Jean McIlvoy, 60, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 24, 1964, she was the cherished daughter of the late Michael W. Jones and Gloria Jean (Buckingham) Jones.

On June 1, 1996, Michelle married the love of her life, Tim McIlvoy, in Glen Carbon, Illinois. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to unwavering devotion, shared dreams, and enduring faith. Michelle was a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church in Glen Carbon, where she found joy, and community with the women of the church.

A passionate educator, Michelle dedicated her life to nurturing young minds as a teacher at Marquette Catholic High School in Alton, Illinois. She had a gift for creating relationships with her students, and always made her classroom a second home, with her kindness, dedication and sense of humor.

Michelle found immense joy in life’s simple pleasures, reading countless books from the library, sharing laughter while out to lunch with her best friend, and cherishing moments with her family. She especially loved her granddaughter, whom she adored and spoiled as often as she could. Her presence was a gentle light in the lives of all who knew her, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.

Michelle was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her infant daughter, Kevy McIlvoy; and her father-in-law, Larry McIlvoy.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Tim McIlvoy of Granite City, IL; her beloved children, Ryan McIlvoy of El Paso, TX, and Kaitlin McIlvoy (Adam Greenlee) of Granite City, IL; her treasured granddaughter, Irie Jean Greenlee; her dear brother, Michael (Carol) Jones of Aviston, IL; her loving mother-in-law, Donna McIlvoy of Granite City, IL; as well as many adored nieces, nephews, extended family members, cherished friends, and former students.

A visitation to celebrate Michelle’s life will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Irwin Chapel in Granite City. A funeral service honoring her beautiful life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, also at Irwin Chapel, with Rev. Rob Schneider officiating. Michelle will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Granite City A.P.A., a cause close to Michelle’s heart. Contributions will be accepted at the funeral home.
