Granite City Police Charge Man With Home Repair Fraud Against Two

GRANITE CITY – Felony charges have been filed against a man accused in two instances of home repair fraud, one involving an elderly victim.

Michael T. Casaretto, 37, of East Carondelet, Ill., was charged on Nov. 4, 2025 with one count each of aggravated home repair fraud (a Class 2 felony) and home repair fraud (a Class 4 felony).

From Aug. 27 to Sept. 17, 2025, Casaretto allegedly entered into an agreement with an individual 60 years of age or older to complete fence repairs at their Granite City residence. Charging documents state Casaretto received a cash payment of $1,000 from the victim and promised to perform the repairs, which he reportedly had no intention of performing.

Casaretto is additionally accused of committing home repair fraud against a second victim within the same time frame.

He reportedly entered into another agreement to perform various home repairs to a different Granite City residence, including fence installation, door replacement, and patio construction. Despite promising the performance of these repairs and receiving a $300 cash payment from the second victim, Casaretto reportedly had no intention of completing the repairs.

Casaretto was granted pretrial release from custody in the case presented by the Granite City Police Department.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
