Richard Karns

Richard T. Karns, 87, passed away Monday, November 10, 2025, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.

Richard was born on August 31, 1938, in Alton, IL, the son of Thomas W. and Opal M. (Weaver) Karns. He married Marilyn J. Holland on December 26, 1964, in Wood River, IL.

Richard is a Veteran of the US Navy. He was a member of Evangelical United Methodist Church in Wood River and then transferred to Bethalto United Methodist Church. Richard was an avid bowler. He was a supporter of the Red Cross and volunteered for several crisis missions. Richard has recognitions for the numerous blood donations he has made over the years. He will be remembered for his love of wood working crafts and furniture restorations. Richard owned a 1929 Ford Model A and enjoyed going to car shows. Another passion of his was to travel. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Richard is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Jennifer and Christian Davinroy of Fairview Heights, and Jill and Gregory Stimac of Bethalto; a sister, Joyce Kirby; five grandchildren, Brandon, Ryan, Tabitha, Cole, and Megan; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn; Richard was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Glenn Weaver.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17, 2025, at 10:00 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tom Hufty officiating.

Burial will take place in the Valhalla Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Red Cross St. Louis Region or to the Lewis and Clark Museum in Hartford.
