GODFREY – The RiverBend Growth Association has adjusted its awards programs in 2026, which includes moving to an every-other-month cycle of recognizing member businesses in the Riverbend for proven excellence.
The Small Business Excellence shoutout for March goes to Pruitt Mechanical Services LLC in Bethalto.
In business for 17 years now, owner Joe Pruitt says he started the business because he “wanted to build something that stood for more than just ‘getting the job done.’”
“I grew up in a working-class home where you learned early that if something breaks, you either fix it yourself or you go without,” Pruitt says further. “That mindset followed me into the trades and shaped the way I built this company.”
Located at 8511 Witt Lane in Bethalto, Pruitt Mechanical Services’ team of 15 continues advancing its mission to “take care of people.” The entire crew is led by Pruitt’s vision to continue building a premier HVAC, plumbing, and electrical company that the community can count on for generations.
“At the end of the day, we’re family-owned, community-rooted, and service-obsessed. We’re proud of the work we do, but we’re even more proud of the reputation we’ve built — one customer, one job, and one relationship at a time,” Pruitt adds.
Pruitt Mechanical Services also makes community service part of its identity. The business regularly gives back through service, partnerships, and event organizing. One of its more notable endeavors is its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway.
“Whether it’s helping someone get heat back on, stepping in during tough times, or supporting community events, our goal is to lead with service and make sure our community feels taken care of,” Pruitt notes.
Over the last five years, both major internal and external improvements have taken place at Pruitt Mechanical Services. The team was expanded, and the leadership was strengthened, for faster response times, improved communications, and more consistent service delivery across all its lines: HVAC, plumbing, and electrical. Pruitt Mechanical further invested heavily into its training, safety standards, and clearer processes so every customer receives the same high level of professionalism no matter which technician arrives.
Major upgrades have also been made to its systems and technology, including improving scheduling, dispatching, customer communication, and job documentation to create a better experience from the first call to the final walkthrough.
“Externally, we have continued improving our brand presence and customer experience by upgrading our service fleet, uniforms, and overall presentation so we show up looking like the premier company we strive to be,” says Pruitt. “We’ve also expanded our service capabilities by investing in new equipment, better tools, and more resources so we can complete more work in-house and serve homeowners more efficiently.”
Like with any business, Pruitt Mechanical has had to rise above many challenges along its path. One that is ongoing is finding and retaining “great people.” This is a challenge for the skilled trade industry overall, Pruitt points out.
“We’ve also had to navigate rising costs, supply chain delays, and changes in the marketplace. Instead of lowering standards, we focused on improving our systems, strengthening communication, and continuing to deliver consistent quality for our customers,” he adds.
So then, what truly sets the business apart from the others?
“What sets Pruitt Mechanical Services apart is that we don’t just focus on completing jobs — we focus on taking care of people,” Pruitt answers. “Our customers choose us because they know we will communicate clearly, show up professionally, and do the work the right way.
“Another major difference is that we offer HVAC, plumbing, and electrical service under one roof. That allows homeowners to call one trusted company for multiple needs, and it creates a better experience by saving time, reducing stress, and keeping quality consistent,” he adds.
“Pruitt Mechanical Services was built with a long-term mindset. We’re not trying to be the biggest overnight. We’re focused on being the most trusted for decades to come. At the end of the day, we’re family-owned, community-rooted, and service-obsessed. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and even more excited about the future and the continued impact we can make,” Pruitt says further.
