Sara Wiesemeyer

Sara J. “Sadie” Wiesemeyer, age 94 of Highland, IL, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Cedarhurst in Highland, IL.

She was born on Wednesday, January 6, 1932, in Smithboro, IL, the daughter of Emmett and Edna (nee Zimmerman) Geries.

On Friday, April 18, 1952, she married Dale Lavern Wiesemeyer at the E & R Church, Highland, IL, who passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.

Mrs. Wiesemeyer was born at Smithboro, IL; she grew up in the Pocahontas, IL area where she attended Pocahontas Public School, graduating with the class of 1950. Following graduation, she worked at Basler Electric in Highland for 5 years. She was a March 30, 1962, graduate of the East Saint Louis Academy of Beauty Culture and was registered as a Beauty Culturist in the State of Illinois. For five years she operated Sadie’s Beauty Salon in Highland, IL; wanting to spend more time with her rapidly growing up family, she sold her shop. She worked as a hairdresser for two days a week at a nursing home in Greenville, IL until her retirement. Her hobbies included arts, crafts, and needlework (cross-stitch and embroidery). She also enjoyed planning family reunions and special gatherings. It was always a happy time when she and Dale could have grandchildren stay over for a few days at a time. Now those grandchildren have all married and Grandma Sadie is happy to have 14 great grandchildren.

Sadie is survived by Children – Gerry D. (Judith) Wiesemeyer of Pocahontas, IL and Gay L. (Ronald) Whiteside of Sorento, IL; Grandchildren – Amy L. (Rick) Doza, Chrissy L. (Patrick) Henning, Jennifer K. (Dennis) Sturgeon, Heather R. (John) Clugston, Amanda N. (Philip) Winkler and Richard D. (Rochelle) Sackett; Great Grandchildren – Timber Thorpe, Austin Henning, Sierra Henning, Abigail Sturgeon, Zachary Sturgeon, Rebecca Sturgeon, Grayce Sturgeon, Jacob Sturgeon, Nicholas Sturgeon, Brynlee Clugston, Lainey Clugston, Kaydence Sackett, Julian Sackett and Amelia Winkler; Sister – Elsie M. Nungesser of Walnut Creek, CA; Nieces & Nephews – Terri Hemenway, Sherie Hurd, Tammy Holdeman, Rick Metzger, Debra Mayher, Danny Wiesemeyer and Cindy Foressee.
She was preceded in death by her husband – Dale L. Wiesemeyer; Parents – Emmett F. and Edna E. (nee Zimmerman) Geries; Son – Gary D. Wiesemeyer; Sister – Betty L. Metzger; Brothers-in-law – Elmer Metzger, Ed Wiesemeyer and Morris Keilbach; Sisters-In-Law – Niala Fae Keilbach and Mitzi Wiesemeyer.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev, Ray Snider, Pastor, United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pocahontas United Methodist Church or V.F.W. Post #5694.
