GRANITE CITY – A Granite City man facing multiple felonies in his latest domestic battery case reportedly fled the scene in a stolen vehicle before threatening a responding officer.
Joshua R. Householder, 37, of Granite City, was charged on April 16, 2026 with one count each of unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle (a Class 2 felony), threatening a public official (a Class 3 felony), aggravated assault of a peace officer (a Class 4 felony), and his second or subsequent offense of domestic battery (also a Class 4 felony).
Three days prior on April 13, Householder allegedly knowingly caused bodily harm to a household or family member without legal justification after previously being convicted of domestic battery in a prior Madison County case from 2023.
On the same date, Householder was reportedly knowingly in possession of a stolen motor vehicle, threatened to take the life of a Granite City Police officer, and “gestured as if he was armed with a weapon” towards the same officer, charging documents state.
The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a petition to deny Householder’s pretrial release from custody, stating the victim reported being struck by Householder during an argument before he “fled the scene in a stolen motor vehicle.”
When officers located Householder and approached him, the petition states he “indicated he was armed with a firearm, gesturing as if reaching for a gun, and threatening to kill officers. He was detained with a taser and arrested.”
The petition also notes that at the time of this offense, Householder was under conditions of pretrial release from a prior felony case filed in 2025. He has also reportedly failed to appear in court on multiple occasions and is considered a flight risk and a threat to the victim in this case and to “the community as a whole.”
The Granite City Police Department presented the latest case against Householder, who currently remains in custody at the Madison County Jail.
All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
