Edwardsville Stars Sophie Shapiro and Joi Story Sweep Hurdle and Throw Events

Sophie Shapiro.Joi Story.ALTON – Edwardsville’s Sophie Shapiro and Joi Story emerged as double winners in the Southwestern Conference Girls Meet on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Alton.

Shapiro won the 100 hurdles (14.07) and the 300 hurdles (42.05). Story won the shot put (12.79 meters) and the discus (44.31 meters).

Tigers teammate Jayla Gathing was second in the discus (42.21 meters) and third in the shot put (10.57 meters), behind Haylee Foster of Belleville West (11.10 meters).

Edwardsville High’s girls dominated the Southwestern Conference Girls Meet on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, with a total of 188 points compared to second-best O’Fallon with 94 points.

Belleville East had 72 points, Belleville West posted 65 points, Alton had 57 points, Collinsville tallied 46, and East St. Louis had 32 points.

The Tigers’ Joanna Anoke was second in the 200 (24.93), and Belleville East’s Cassidy Willis was clocked in the same time. Jade Davis of East St. Louis was second in the 400 (1:00.41), while Jaylinn Bell of Edwardsville was third (1:01.17) and Sune Delkus was fourth (1:02.37).

Edwardsville’s Willow Jackson was second in the 800 (2:23.21) and Natalie Heaton of Collinsville was third (2:25.86). Morgan Popelar of the Tigers beat O’Fallon’s Ellie Bush in the 1,600 with a time of 5:10.64 to Bush’s 5:15.55. Edwardsville’s Madison Popelar was fourth (5:22.90).

McKenna Kerpan of Edwardsville won the 3,200 (11:18.56) and Virginia Siejka of the Tigers was second (12:11.80).

Edwardsville won the 4 x 100 relay 46.74, the 4 x 200 relay (1:40.36), Belleville East won the 4 x 400 (3:51.91) and Edwardsville was second (3:58.73).

Edwardsville won the 4 x 800 relay (9:27.28).

Talia Omotola was second in the women’s high jump (1.57 meters).

Omotola was second in the triple jump (11.16 meters), with the Tigers’ Madison Heng in third (10.39 meters).

Morgan Gestes of Edwardsville won the long jump (5.28 meters), while Dariana Morris of Collinsville was second (5.24 meters).
