ALTON – Alton Mayor David Goins said feedback from the city’s Friday night, July 3, 2026, fireworks display in Alton has described it as “one of the best in many years.” The mayor said the city placed extra emphasis on the event because of America’s 250th anniversary.
Mayor Goins said the display was “a spectacular display” and that he received “a lot of compliments” afterward. He said that when he went to the grocery store Saturday, July 4, 2026, “somebody stopped me” and told him it was the “best seen in a long time.”
The mayor also said the event was “so well attended,” drawing people from Alton and surrounding communities.
“Our businesses get a lot of customers during the fireworks event, and we also get a lot of people from surrounding communities come to that event,” Goins said.
He said the fireworks display was “very well attended” and that “things went off pretty smoothly without a hitch.”
Goins said the anniversary added significance to the celebration.
“It was a really special week for Alton,” he said.
Mayor Goins also mentioned that the next big event for Alton is the IHRA Alton Powerboat Nationals F1 Champions for the third time running on July 17-19, 2026, at Riverfront Park.
