O’Fallon Detective Sergeant Bill Barlock Retires After 24 Years

O”FALLON, IL. – The O’Fallon Police Department announced the retirement of Detective Sergeant Bill Barlock, a veteran officer credited with shaping investigations and community programs in O’Fallon, Illinois, after 24 1/2 years in law enforcement.

The O’Fallon Police Department said Barlock has retired from the department after joining O’Fallon Police on Feb. 11, 2008, following more than six years with the Gurnee Police Department.

During his career with the O’Fallon Police Department, Barlock served as a field training officer, school resource officer, detective, deputy report officer for the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, member of the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force, patrol sergeant and, most recently, detective sergeant.

The department said Barlock became “one of the region’s most respected experts in computer and digital forensics.”

“His knowledge and ability to recover, analyze, and interpret digital evidence changed the way our department investigates crimes,” the department said. The department said his work helped uncover evidence in cases involving homicides, crimes against children, fraud and other investigations, and that his expertise also assisted other agencies in the region.

Barlock also devoted time to community events, including organizing National Night Out, also called Night to Unite, and Breakfast with Santa, according to the department.

The department said one of Barlock’s lasting legacies was the creation of the O’Fallon Police Department Honor Guard, which he founded in 2011. According to the department, he secured donations for uniforms and training and built a program that has represented the department at local, state and national ceremonies.

“Bill, thank you for your 24 1/2 years of dedicated police service,” the department said. “You have made this department, our profession, and our community better.”

The department also noted Barlock was the department’s 2015 Officer of the Year and described him as “a trusted leader and a loyal friend to so many within our department.”
