EDWARDSVILLE – Second-seeded Jerry Roddick of College Station, Texas, advanced Tuesday, July 28, 2026, to the main singles draw of the $30,000 Edwardsville Futures tennis tournament at the Edwardsville Tennis Center, while top-seeded doubles team Finn Reynolds Cook of Perth, Australia, and Leo Vithoontien, originally from Bangkok, Thailand, now from Japan, won their opening-round match.
Day three of the tournament, presented by The EGHM Foundation, also saw heat affect the schedule, pushing three first-round doubles matches to Wednesday, though the doubles finals remain set for Friday evening.
The eight qualifying players for the main draw were determined in the third and final round of qualifying.
In the top half of the qualifying draw, Hiroki Sakagawa defeated Rohan Belday 6-1, 4-2 when Belday retired. Roddick advanced with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) win over Jon Gamble. Illja Palavestra moved on with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Malhar Patel, and Jelani Sarr defeated fourth-seeded Noah Johnston 6-3, 7-5.
In the bottom half, Manuel Lazaro-Juncadella defeated Eric Corvei 4-6, 6-4, 10-8. Cooper Woestendick beat Lev Seidman 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 11-9, Nikita Filin eliminated Maximus Dussault 7-5, 4-6, 12-10, and Jonah Braswell defeated James Weber 6-4, 7-5.
In the opening round of the doubles main draw, Cook and Vithoontien defeated the American team of Jack Satterfield and Keaton Hance 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Tyler Bowers of the United States and Oliver Okonkwo of Great Britain beat Kyle McNally and Shaan Patel of the United States 6-2, 6-4. Marko Milandinovic of Serbia and Andreja Petrovic of Norway defeated Henry Barrett and Evan Bynoe of the United States 6-2, 6-1.
Also in doubles, the third-seeded American team of Maxwell Exsted and Woestendick defeated Johnston and Weber 6-3, 6-4, while the second-seeded team of Thomas Fancutt of Australia and Billy Suarez of the United States beat the American team of Burnett and Dussault 7-5, 6-2.
The main singles draw begins Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. The feature match is Petrovic against McNally. At about noon, top-seeded Johannus Monday of Great Britain will face Braswell, second-seeded Karim Bennani of Morocco will play Sakagawa, third-seeded Samir Banerjee of the United States will meet Sarr, and fourth-seeded Gavin Young of the United States will face Woestendick.
In the night session at 6:30 p.m., Roddick will play Bruno Kuzuhara of the United States in the remaining singles opener. The three remaining first-round doubles matches also are scheduled, including the fourth-seeded team of Americans Vignesh Gogonini and Young against Lazaro-Juncadella of Spain and Sakagawa.
Wednesday also is Aldo Diversity Day. The annual clinic for minority players and a lunch program with guest speakers will take place at Liberty Middle School. The clinic starts at 10 a.m., and the program is scheduled for about 11:30 a.m.
