Granite City Woman Charged With Financially Exploiting Elderly Victim

GRANITE CITY – A woman from Granite City was recently charged three years after allegedly using an elderly victim’s signature to apply for a mortgage and more.

Linda L. Bone, 66, of Granite City faces two counts of financial exploitation of an elderly person, including a Class 1 felony and Class 2 felony. She also faces two counts of aggravated identity theft, including one Class 1 felony and one Class 2 felony.

The charges against Bone were filed on Aug. 13, 2026 in Madison County court and stem from actions allegedly committed three years prior.

On Sept. 6, 2023, Bone reportedly knowingly used an elderly victim’s signature on an application for a mortgage of real property valued at over $50,000 without the victim’s knowledge or consent. She allegedly stood in a position of trust and confidence with the victim, who was over 60 years of age at the time of the offense.

Bone is additionally accused of using the same elderly victim’s signature on an application for a homeowner’s insurance policy without the victim’s knowledge or consent on June 22, 2023.

The Granite City Police Department presented the case against Bone, who was ordered released from custody pending trial.

All individuals charged are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
