GLEN CARBON – The process of selecting a new Glen Carbon Village Administrator has officially begun.
The Aug. 25, 2026 Village Board meeting also served as a “kickoff meeting” between trustees and Mark Peterson of MGT Impact Solutions LLC. Peterson previously said the meeting would serve to determine what qualities and qualifications the village is looking for in its next village administrator.
Jamie Bowden announced last month he would be retiring as Glen Carbon’s village administrator no later than Feb. 12, 2027. Bowden leaves the position after a career spanning nearly 15 years with the village since 2011.
Peterson gave a detailed overview of the recruitment process ahead, with an estimated timeline of 12 to 14 weeks. If all goes according to schedule, the job posting will be made public on Sept. 14, 2026 with an application deadline of Oct. 16, 2026.
After a detailed application review process including background checks and more, the top two tiers of candidates will be presented for the village’s consideration in late November. The Village Board would then ratify an agreement with its final chosen candidate at its only December meeting on Dec. 8, 2026.
“Glen Carbon has a lot to offer … it’s a lovely community,” Peterson said, noting the village’s size and location within the St. Louis Metropolitan Area. “It has a stable village government, which is really important. All of those things will help us in the effort to try to attract high-quality candidates to the position.”
The job posting for the village administrator position will be advertised nationwide, Peterson said. While most applicants will likely come from the St. Louis region and greater Midwest, he said some candidates will apply from across the country. He estimates 50 or more candidates will apply for the position, but said half of those candidates will likely be unqualified, which he said is common in processes like this.
“I’m going to do my level best to find that final candidate that is not a Milwaukee Brewers fan … I know that’s an irritant of the current village administrator,” Peterson joked, noting Bowden was wearing Brewers socks at the meeting.
Over the next few days, Peterson plans to meet with village trustees individually to determine the qualities they’d like to see in their ideal next village administrator. MGT will use this input to create a “candidate profile,” which will help prepare the job posting and narrow down the field of applicants as the process moves forward.
The village administrator and his staff are responsible for overseeing daily operations of each village department, administering village policies, coordinating public communications and more, according to the village website.
No official action was taken on Aug. 25, 2026, as the kickoff meeting was for discussion only.
