Terry Lee Laflen, 69, of Swansea, IL, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026. Born on October 18, 1956, in Belleville, IL, to Orville and Thelma Laflen, Terry lived a life full of love, humor, and devotion to his family.
Terry spent his career as an architect, bringing the same care and precision to his work that he brought to everything else in his life, including his famously immaculate yard, which he tended with real pride. He loved baseball, enjoyed a good game of tennis, and could often be found working through a crossword puzzle or listening to his favorite music. But more than anything, Terry loved his family, and his granddaughters held an especially cherished place in his heart.
Those who knew Terry will remember him as a man of honesty and integrity, the kind of person you could always count on, and a true friend to many. He was active and quick-witted, with a warmth and sense of humor that could light up any room. It’s that humor, and the comfort of his hugs, that those who loved him will miss most.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Thelma Laflen, and his siblings; David Laflen, Sandra Higgins, Michael Laflen, Linda Pfau, and Elaine Mitze.
Terry is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sheryl Laflen, nee Kinzinger, whom he married on August 2, 1980; his children, Brad Laflen and Kristen (Phil) Webber; three granddaughters, Nora, Stella, and Eva Webber; his siblings, Judy McKenzie, Dennis (Onna) Laflen, Cheri (Rod) Cockrell, and Peggy (Jim) Setzer; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Maribeth Laflen, Karen Laflen, Alfred Higgins, Ron Pfau; and many nieces and nephews.

Terry will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
