FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS/BELLEVILLE – Two juvenile brothers were arrested after fights near Raising Cane’s in Fairview Heights following local high school football games, and their parent was charged with failure to supervise, according to police. In a separate report, Belleville Police said a juvenile was arrested after officers found a firearm and ammunition in a backpack outside a high school football stadium Sept. 25, 2026.
Fairview Heights Police said an officer was monitoring about 250 teens gathered at Raising Cane’s and nearby parking lots when an employee reported a fight inside the restaurant on Friday night, Oct. 2, 2026.
The officer responded immediately and was told two females had been fighting but had already left, police said. He then saw a large fight closer to Taco Bell, where a juvenile male was punching a juvenile female. The officer arrested the male.
As additional officers arrived, they heard a verbal altercation between two juvenile males and ordered them to leave. One left, but the other refused repeated directions to leave and lunged at an officer with his fists raised, according to police.
The juvenile tripped over a bush and fell, police said. An officer arrested him while he resisted. Police identified him as the brother of the first juvenile arrested and said both are from Belleville.
A third juvenile male was detained but later released after police determined his involvement was minor.
The brothers were taken to the police department, processed and released to their parent under Illinois law, police said. They will face charges through the juvenile court system. Their parent was charged with failure to supervise and issued a court date.
Officers from O’Fallon, St. Clair County, Collinsville, Caseyville, Shiloh and Belleville assisted.
Fairview Heights police warned that juveniles gathering and loitering near Raising Cane’s and surrounding areas would face trespassing charges and have their vehicles towed. The department said those not inside buying a meal or product would be charged and arrested, and parents would face failure-to-supervise charges requiring a court appearance.
Police said signs were posted and the area was being monitored with video and license plate readers. Additional charges against juveniles will be issued after video is fully reviewed, the department said.
Belleville Officers Investigate Disturbances At East-West Football Game
In Belleville, officers working the Belleville East-Belleville West High School football game responded to and investigated several disturbances involving juveniles at about 8:16 p.m. Sept. 25, 2026, according to a police report posted Sept. 26, 2026.
While checking school grounds outside the Belleville East football stadium, officers found two unattended backpacks near the tennis courts and baseball fields. Police said officers checked the bags because they appeared abandoned and were near a large crowd.
Officers found a firearm and ammunition inside one backpack. The firearm was not loaded, police said.
Officers identified the backpack’s owner, and school administrators and officers located the juvenile inside the stadium. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident.
In its report, titled “Juvenile Arrested for Aggravated Use of a Weapon,” Belleville police said the juvenile was being held at the St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center pending further investigation.
The investigation remains active. Police said no identifying information would be released because of the juvenile’s age.
