Margaret Turner

Margaret Marie Turner, 92, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at her home.

She was born December 11, 1931, in Longwood Township, Clark County, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Carl Andrew and Agnes (Poppe) Gorsegner. She married James R. “Jim” Turner on November 11, 1952, in Santa Ana, California and he survives.

Margaret proudly served her country with the United States Air Force and had served as a Recruiting Sergeant. She was a faithful member of Central Christian Church in Granite City where she was active with the Christian Women’s Fellowship and was a Sunday School teacher and sang with the choir.

She enjoyed painting and crocheting and loved nature and tending to her flowers. Margaret will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband of over 71 years, she is survived by six children and their spouses, Diane and Ray Wylde of Granite City, Susan and Bill Burbine of Augusta, Georgia, Michael and Nancy Turner of Granite City, Nancy and Ron Edwards of Missouri, Dorothy and Jim Helton of Granite City and Eric and Sharon Turner of Warsaw, Missouri; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven Turner; a sister, Iris Miller and several half brothers and sisters.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Derrell Brame officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.
