Darlene Cox, age 89, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Brightly Assisted Living in Glen Carbon, IL. Darlene was born on September 29, 1934, in Marissa, IL, a daughter of the late Elmer Dehn Sr. and Johanna (Hacker) Dehn.
On August 17, 1951, Darlene Dehn married James E. Cox, the love of her life, in Rhode Island, and James passed away on March 30, 2016. Darlene was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church in Granite City, IL, where she loved going to church and serving the Lord. She retired from Mavrakos Candy Company in St. Louis, MO, as a sales representative after many years of dedicated service. The joys of her life were her family, and spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always put a smile on her face. Darlene will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend to many. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Darlene was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Bruder, and by her siblings, Elmer Dehn Jr., Florence Doolin, John Dehn and Janet Bramell.
Darlene is survived by her loving children, Debbie (Don) Harris of Granite City, IL, Denise (Pastor Jim) Rosene of Rockford, IL, Darla (Mike) Minick of Panama City Beach, FL, and Delora (Pastor Marty) DeRoche of Cutler, IL; dear son-in-law, Randy Bruder of Granite City, IL; proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Darlene will be laid to rest next to James at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2024, with the memorial service to follow at 6:00 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church, Granite City, IL, with Pastor Marty DeRoche, Pastor Jim Rosene and Pastor Jarad Corzine officiating.
Memorial donations may be given to Kids Around the World, Honor Flight or Unity Baptist Church. Donations will be accepted at the church.
