William King

William Charles “Chuck” King, 79, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:24 a.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, at his home.  He was born February 28, 1944, in LaHarp, Illinois, a son of the late George and Evelyn (Carnes) King.  He married JoAnn (Whitaker) King on February 4, 1995, at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and she survives.  Chuck had worked at Lutz Hardware Store in Nauvoo, Illinois with many years of service as a heating technician and as a general clerk.  He also enjoyed painting and sandblasting for over 20 years until his retirement.  Following his retirement, he continued a lifelong passion of restoring cars, enjoyed working with crafts and attending craft shows and volunteering with TWIGS.  He was a faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City where he was active with the Brotherhood.  In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three sons, Brian (Teresa) King of Fulton, Missouri, Brad King of Imperial, Missouri and Brent King of Columbia, Missouri; three stepchildren, Denise (Dave) Lofink of Granite City, Michael (Gena) Kalert of Bethalto and David (Scott Eberhart) Kalert of Glen Carbon; grandchildren, Briana King, Rachel King, Evelyn King, Cyd King, Steven Kalert, Melissa Sullivan, Maerhanda Rolens and Jacob Kalert; great grandchildren, Charlie, Blake, Destiny, Joseph, Aubrey and Paige; two brothers, Ronald (Kay) King of Wisconsin and Robert “Bob” (Rita) King of Farris, Illinois; sister, Sydney King of Ft. Madison, Iowa; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. 

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at St. John United Church of Christ, 2901 Nameoki Road in Granite City on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Karla Frost officiating.  Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City.  Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ or to Heartland Hospice.  Irwin Chapel of Granite City in charge of arrangements. www.irwinchapel.com
