Hal F. Painter, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:38 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Shiloh, Illinois. He was born March 5, 1934, in Collinsville, Illinois, the son of the late Hale F. and Frances (Zukas) Painter Sr. He married the love of his life, Barbara June (McCullough) Painter in 1956 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City and she passed away on January 17, 2007. Hal retired in 1999 from Granite City Steel after 42 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City. He was a very devout Catholic and loved his religion, history and his I-pad. He also enjoyed riding his stationary bike and liked to tell people that he rode enough miles to circle the equator twice. He cherished his family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. He is survived by a son, Michael Painter and Julie Repp of Collinsville; four grandchildren, Sarah Axe and Mark Axe, Kathryn Painter and Tommy Gabauer, Alison Keough and Ben Keough and Haley Black; a great granddaughter, Emily; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Rhonda Marie Painter and Robin Diane Black and a sister, Dorothy Sinovic. In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
