Shirley Jean Yates, 94, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away, November 9, 2023, in Granite City, she was born December 9, 1928, in Granite City, Illinois, to the late, Leon and Teresa, née Jones, Costley.
Shirley worked as a bookkeeper for Processors Industrial Community Credit Union for 35 years. She was a faithful member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Granite City and served as an Elder and a deacon. She was a member of Church Women United and Seafarers of First Presbyterian. She dedicated her time to the VFW Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society, volunteered at Gateway Regional Medical Center, as a past president of the Auxiliary. Shirley enjoyed camping, raised grain, hay and cattle on the family’s 18-acre farm and loved horses. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Yates; her daughter, Sandra Agles; a daughter-in-law, Julianne Yates; and her siblings, Leon Costley, Jr., and Mary Ann Costello
Surviving are her son, Ronald Yates, of Granite City, Illinois; her grandchildren, Marsha (Scott) Timme, Melissa (Steve) Chasteen, Brenda Yates, and Scott (Doreen) Bann; her great grandchildren, Shayla (Matt) Jackson, Ronald (Kassidy) Yates, Anthony Timme, and Dillan Timme, Stephanie Chasteen, Melanie Chasteen, Chancellor Burgener, Cameron Burgener, Taylor (Billy) Ludwig, Lauren (Peter) Simpson, and Macy Bann; her great-great grandchildren, Noah, Oliver, Zoey, Elijah, and Rory; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2023, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Illinois.
Funeral: Services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, Illinois with Rev. Jennifer Warren Hauser officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Illinois.
