Mildred Kenison

Mildred May Kenison, 96, of Granite City, Illinois passed away peacefully at her home at 8:03 a.m. on Friday April 7, 2023.  She was born May 5, 1926, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Amelia (Klug) Stegelmeyer.  She married Lewis B. “Bud” Kenison on May 3, 1953, in Granite City and he passed away on August 24, 2002.  Mildred was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City.  She retired as a secretary with many years of dedicated service at Granite Sheet Metal.  The love for her family was the most important thing to Mildred and she cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She enjoyed her days of sewing, knitting, and crocheting and made many dolls and clothes for all of her grandkids.  She is survived by five children, Merle Willis of Granite City, Kathleen Williams of Owensville, Indiana, Phylis Kenison of Granite City, Larry (Maureen) Kenison of Caseyville and Kenneth Kenison of Collinsville; niece Carol Wilson of Granite City; six grandchildren, Jessica, Todd, Sarah, Laura, Michael and Maxwell; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; other extended family and friends.  In addition to her beloved husband of 49 years and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Ralph Stegelmeyer and one sister, Melba Wood.  In celebration of her life and in accordance with her wishes, a graveside service will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at 10:45 a.m. with Reverend Charles Preston officiating.  You may join the family at 10:30 a.m. at the cemetery’s family waiting lot on Sheridan Road.  Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice.  Irwin Chapel of Granite City in charge of arrangements.  www.irwinchapel.com
