Norma Jean Abenroth, 74, of East Peoria and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria at 6:18 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
She was born September 2, 1946, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Arthur A. and Viola M. (Riess) Lindner. She married Ronald Gene Abenroth on July 10, 1965, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City and he survives.
She was a loving homemaker and enjoyed her years working with the family business, Abbey Auto Sales in Granite City, and had also worked as an administrative assistant at Southwestern Illinois College. Norma was a long-time, faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City and, more recently, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton. She enjoyed attending weekly mass, daily walks through the neighborhood with her amazing neighbors, annual family trips to Cadillac, Michigan, and watching her grandchildren play whatever sport was in season.
In addition to her beloved husband, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Erica Abenroth of Edwards, Illinois; four grandchildren, Caroline, Jacob, Anna and John Abenroth; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley and Ed Creamer of California and Barb Schmedake of Granite City; her adored nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Abenroth; a sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Milton James and a brother-in-law, James Schmedake.
In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Thursday, February 11, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City.
