Thomas Berkel

Thomas Raymond Berkel, 64, of Troy, IL, born February 12, 1956 in Belleville, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, MO, surrounded by family.

Tom was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #8729, Troy, IL. He retired in 2016 after 35 years from Boeing Company, St. Louis, MO. Tom loved traveling with his wife and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, barbequing, and watching Northwestern football.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Berkel; sisters-in-law Sandy Johann, Mimi Brown, and Christine Black; and niece Jenny Johann-Berkel.

Surviving are his wife, Susan (nee Black) Berkel of Troy, IL; children, Nick (Jenna) Berkel of New Baden, IL, Leslie (Ryan) Katigbak of O’Fallon, IL, Laurel (Darren) Shea of St. Charles, MO, and Neil (Merrilee) Berkel of O’Fallon, IL; grandchildren, Garrett Berkel, Colton and Jade Katigbak, Nolan and Conor Shea, and Adaline Berkel; mother, Ruth (nee Stratmann) Berkel of O’Fallon, IL; siblings, Ken (Chris) Berkel of Rubicon, WI, Charles (Sandy) Berkel of Edwardsville, IL, Ed (Bena) Berkel of Poughkeepsie, NY, Steve (Maggie) Berkel of St. Jacob, IL, Jan (Dwain) Sorenson Hill of Springfield, IL, Marge (Ed) Williams of Belleville, IL, Joanne Lippincott of Belleville, IL, and Barb (Bruce) Jeremiah of Steeleville, IL; mother- and father-in-law, Leonard and Doris (nee Holdener) Black of Caseyville, IL; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Tony (Carol) Black of Troy, IL, Dale (Helen) Black of Fairview Heights, IL, Karen (Stan) Parker of Jackson, TN, and Craig (Kelli) Black of Collinsville, IL.

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am on Friday, December 4, 2020 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Friday, December 4, 2020 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL with Fr. Kevin Laughery officiating.
