Dolores Durell

Dolores M. “Dolly” Durell, 89, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 7:34 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.  She was born December 21, 1930 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Trotts) Young.  She married Frank E. Durell Sr. in Granite City in 1950 and he passed away on March 6, 2002.  She retired from AT&T after 40 years of dedicated service as a group chief manager.  Dolly loved music and enjoyed dancing and loved planting in her flower gardens and had a green thumb.  She had a love of nature and enjoyed watching the birds.  She enjoyed her days with her Weight Watcher friends.  She will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.  She is survived by five daughters and four sons-in-law, Karen Durell of Granite City, Nancy and Michael Koch of Waterloo, Rhonda and David DeWitt of Granite City, Angela and Steven Shrum of Columbia and Kristina and Brian Johnson of Granite City; daughter-in-law, Sandra Smith of St. Jacob; twenty-four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Billie Young of Collinsville; two brothers-in-law, Willie Clark of Fredericktown, Missouri and Rev. Tom Laufer of Nebraska; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.  In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Frank E. Durell Jr.; two brothers, Henry Young and Ronald Young and two sisters, Winnie Clark and Shirley Norris.

In accordance to family wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no services are scheduled.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or support your local animal shelter for Dolly’s love for animals.  Irwin Chapel of Granite City in charge of arrangements.  www.irwinchapel.com
