Marvin Wiedemer

Marvin Wiedemer, 95, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:46 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2020 at Cedarhurst of Granite City. He was born in Granite City on January 19, 1925, a son of the late Marcus and Mamie (Corrigan) Wiedemer.

Marvin retired from Boeing in St. Louis after many years of dedicated service with aircraft modifications.  The World War II veteran proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Corp and was the recipient of several medals and recognitions. He was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-City Council #1143 in Granite City. 

Marvin enjoyed his days of traveling throughout the United States as well as many countries. He was very generous with his time having served as a Troop Leader with the St. Elizabeth Church Boy Scouts, a volunteer with the Tri-Cities Area Association for Handicapped as a bus driver, and as a Big Brother for many years. He provided many scholarships to students at St. Elizabeth School to continue their education at Father McGivney Catholic High School. These scholarships will continue in his memory with the Marvin Wiedemer Scholarship Fund. 

Marvin was known for his great wit and sense of humor, as well as his kindness and generosity and was loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his love and special times shared with family and friends. In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by his two nieces, Shirley (Frank) Wendel and Marilyn Schooley.  He is survived by a nephew, Owen W. Davis Jr.; great nieces and nephews, Lynne Davis, Michael (Rebecca) Davis, Janice Wendel, Ed Wendel, Bill Schooley, Jack Schooley, Tom (Kathy) Schooley, Rick (Joyce) Schooley, Cassie (Mark) Iken; and other extended family and friends.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City on Friday, August 7, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant.  For those who wish to attend, please sign up at www.signupgenius.com/go/8050a4aa5ad23a1f94-marvin.  The Funeral Mass may be viewed livestream at the Facebook page of St. Elizabeth Church.  Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.  Memorials may be made to The Marvin Wiedemer Scholarship Fund or to Masses.
