John Henry Obenhaus Sr., 84 of Granite City, IL, passed away at 9:55 a.m. Mon. July 27, 2020 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
He was born Nov. 25, 1935 in St. Louis, MO to the late August and Catherine (Krejci) Obenhaus.
On July 20, 1961, he and Carol Sue Dunn were married in St. Louis. She survives in Granite City.
Mr. Obenhaus retired from Cupples Railroad Co. after 40 years of service. He loved spending time with his kids, teaching them to fish, hunt and ride motorcycles. He also loved racecars and watching races at the Tri-City Speedway.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Carla (Ron) Brewer of Maryville; a son: John Henry (Nora Renee) Obenhaus Jr. of Granite City; 6 grandchildren: Carrie, John III, Justin, Keith, Steven and Nicole; 6 great-grandchildren: Olivia, Miya, Raleigh, Anderson, Ethan and Landon; and a brother: Harry Joe Obenhaus of St. Charles, MO.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Rose Winkle, Betty Eich and Kate Dixon; and 3 brothers; Danny, Fred and Gus Obenhaus.
The family will hold a private memorial service.
