James Lee “Jim” Evans, 65, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at his home on Sunday, July 12, 2020. He was born October 18, 1954 in Highland, Illinois, a son of the late Marshall and Anna (Cerny) Evans. He married Diane Lynn (Votaw) Evans on May 12, 2007 in Granite City and she passed away on April 14, 2017. Jim retired from AT&T after several years of dedicated service as a computer programmer. He had also worked out of the Carpenter’s Local #295 with over 25 years of service. He was an avid gun buff, loved shooting and was a member of the Town and Country Gun Club. He was a talented artist with many facets. He loved woodcarving, painting, piercings and tattoos. Jim enjoyed building various intricut military craft models, cooking and sharing his food and will be remembered for many of his corny jokes. He was also a huge movie buff and cherished his cat, Miss Kitty. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Evans of Edwardsville; two granddaughters, Kassidy Kessler and Josephine Willmert; a brother, Richard Evans of Bradenton, Florida; stepdaughter, Laura Cole of Collinsville; stepson, John Jansen of Michael; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Evans.
In celebration of his life and in accordance to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Private memorial service will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Memorials may be made to support your local animal shelter. www.irwinchapel.com
