Harold Davis

Harold W. Davis, 85 of Granite City passed away peacefully on Friday, July 3, 2020 at University Care Center in Edwardsville.

Harold was born on August 3, 1934 in Granite City; the son of the late Luther and C. Evelyn (Eads) Davis. Harold was a graduate of Granite City High School Class of 1952, a retired electrician for Granite City Steel, and member of Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, where he and his wife were married on April 27, 1956. Harold was well known for being very active in the community serving on the Granite City School Board where he was elected 3 times serving 9 years, he was a supervisor for Nameoki Township, Secretary for the Long Lake Fire Department, Worshipful Master of Granite City Masonic Lodge #877, member of Ainad Shrine Temple and the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge #650. Harold was a Boy Scout Committee Chairman, a member of the Madison County Vocational Board, president of Hoedowners Square Dancers Club. He was very active with the Granite City Park District where he managed the Dog & Suds baseball team and coached park district football. Harold had a special love of all sports and was always willing for a good round of golf or being out on a boat where he loved to fish. Harold loved to plan and go on vacations with his family and attending his kids and grandkids events. Harold will be remembered for his kind heart and his joy for spending time with his family.

Harold is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Janet (Ridings) Davis; sons, Mark and Joyce Davis of Granite City, Randy and Julie Davis of Edwardsville; daughter, Karen and Mike Smith of Waterloo; grandchildren, Lyndsay Davis, Jamie Davis, Joey Davis, Jayson and Lindsay York, Justin and Amber York, Jacob and Missy Smith, Jordan and Crystal Smith, Ashley and Herbert Bucaro, Kayley Smith, Brandon Davis, Lucas Davis, Owen Davis; proud great-grandfather of 12 and numerous nieces, nephews and many other close family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his granddaughter; Erin Davis; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Esther Davis; brother-in-law, Bill Ridings; sister-in-law, Loretta Unverzagt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Preston and Villa Ridings; cousin, Gale Cuvar.

In celebration of Harold’s life, a private family visitation and funeral will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 with a drive by visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Burial will be at a later date at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorial donations are suggested to Nameoki United Methodist Church, St. John’s Community Care, Heartland Hospice or University Care in Edwardsville.
