Edward Gene Massey, 84 of Granite City, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
Edward was born on February 2, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri; the son of the late James and Edna (Wright) Massey Cherry. Edward was a truck driver for Yellow Freight and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He loved his church and was a devoted member of Bethel Chapel in Granite City where he was active in the bus ministry, driving a bus for the children getting them to church. In his free time, Edward loved to camp and spend time with his family. Most of all he loved his family and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
Edward is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Shirley (Kays) Massey, whom he married on November 8, 1958; his children, Linda and Bob Brimm of Granite City, Pam and Brian Schuelke of Granite City, Brenda and Jeff Johnson of Goshen, IN, Melanie and Thad Wheeler of Mountain View, MO; grandchildren, Matthew Brimm, Joshua Brimm, John Schuelke, Michelle Schuelke, Lauren Johnson, Zachary Johnson, Alexis Johnson, Ruger Wheeler, Remington Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Eberle Brimm, Boston Brimm, Wisteria Brimm, Siena Brimm, Arrigo Brimm, Wren Schuelke, Malina Westbrook and several brothers and sisters.
In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Massey.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Edward’s life, visitation will continue on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Chapel Pentecostal Church, 2445 Ohio Avenue in Granite City with Pastor David Brimm officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorial donations are suggested to Sunset Hill Campground.
