Garth Christopher Widel, 61, of Chesterfield and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 7:28 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at his home. He was born September 18, 1958 in Granite City, a son of the late George and Beulah (Ragans) Widel. He worked for Central Parking in St. Louis with 25 years of service as a ground attendant. Garth proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He is survived by a son, Christopher Widel of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Freddie Jaramillo of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Emily Newman, Alex Jaramillo, Michael Terry, Aiden Jaramillo, Jace Jaramillo and Jarrod Jaramillo; a great grandchild, Xavier; two brothers and a sister-in-law, George and Linda Widel of Granite City and Phillip Widel of Granite City; a sister, Brenda Lane of Nevada; a brother-in-law, Norman Bennett of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Cheryl Widel and Charles Widel and a sister, Beverly Bennett.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, December 8, 2019 from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Adam Cruse officiating. Military rites will be accorded. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
