Arthur Ernest Laswell, 86, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:22 p.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Stearns Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City.
He was born January 28, 1932 in Iberia, Missouri, a son of the late Eugene and Viva (Martin) Laswell. He married Ruth Elenora (Mefford) Laswell on June 17, 1951 in Granite City and she passed away on August 3, 2017.
He retired from Granite City Steel after many years of service as a millwright. He was a member of Calvary Life Church in Granite City and was a collector of many things. He loved nature and wildlife and was a fan of John Deere. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Lynn and Jane Laswell of St. Charles, Illinois; three daughters, Jeanette Liguori of Carmel, California, Donna Laswell of Granite City and Laura Laswell of Granite City; six grandchildren and their spouses, Kristen Laswell, Natalie and Antonio Morales, Kelly Laswell, Jana and Gabe Kaster, Matthew Liguori and Caitlin Liguori; four great grandchildren, Siena, Zachary, Josiah and Bianca; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Sue and Charles Connor; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Vince Liguori and a sister and brother-in-law, Julia and Jerry Newman.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Visitation will continue at Calvary Life Church, 4650 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Maynard officiating.
Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City.
