Tom Henry Hurley, 82, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born August 28, 1936 in Savannah, Tennessee, a son of the late Jessie and Emma “Goldie” (Baskin) Hurley. He married Shirley Ann (Engle) Hurley on January 28, 1968 in St. Louis, Missouri and she survives.
He retired from Sears in 1994 after over 30 years of dedicated service as a mechanic. He had also owned and operated Hurley’s Jewerly in Granite City and St. Louis for many years.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by four sons, John and wife, Cindy Hurley of Festus, Missouri, David Lee Hurley of Millstadt, Illinois, Regis “Scott” and wife, Jean Averell of Raleigh, North Carolina and Kenneth and husband, Taylor Averell of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren, Christina Hurley of Godfrey, David “D.J.” and significant other, Haley Hurley of Wood River, Amber Hurley of Alton and John Paul Hurley Jr. of Missouri ; four great grandchildren, Audrey, Joshua, Aidyn and Jolee; sister, Sandy Goodwin of Hayti, Missouri; nieces, Melanie, Melinda, Sherry and Emma; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Elbert, Robert, Carl and Laverne.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
